We don’t even participate in half of Olympic sports; need to improve: PM Modi
“In the Olympics, there are so many different sports... Indian teams don't even participate in half of them,” Mr. Modi said, calling it a “bitter truth”.
On Thursday, August 27, 2026, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a virtual gathering of athletes, students, and volunteers participating in the Khelo India Dialogue. The Prime Minister emphasized that India's Olympic performance can only improve if the country increases its participation in Olympic events where it has not competed in the past. Modi's vision for sports transcends mere medal-winning; he sees it as an essential component of the nation-building process.
