This iPhone Remains World’s Best-Selling Smartphone in Q2 2026

In Q2 2026, Apple's iPhone 17 maintained its position as the world's best-selling smartphone, continuing the lead it had in the previous quarter. Counterpoint Research reported that the base iPhone 17 accounted for 6% of global smartphone sales between April and June. Apple and Samsung dominated the top 10, with five smartphones from each brand making the list.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max secured the second spot, followed by the iPhone 17 Pro in third, giving Apple all three top positions globally. The iPhone 17e and iPhone 16 also appeared in the top 10. Apple's overall smartphone sales grew 5% year-on-year, even as the market contracted. Strong sales were observed in Japan and the Middle East and Africa, while South Korean iPhone sales nearly doubled during the quarter.

The iPhone 17's success was partly due to improvements that narrowed the gap between the standard model and Apple's higher-end Pro models. Samsung's Galaxy S26 Ultra emerged as the best-selling Android smartphone in Q2, making history as the first ultra-premium Android phone to lead Android sales in a June quarter. The Galaxy S26 Ultra climbed five positions compared to its predecessor and contributed over half of Galaxy S26 series sales during the quarter.

Samsung's other Galaxy phones, including the Galaxy S26 and three Galaxy A-series devices, also entered the top 10. Together, Apple and Samsung's 10 smartphones accounted for 26% of global smartphone sales in Q2 2026, an increase of two percentage points from the same period last year. This represented the highest contribution from the top 10 smartphones ever recorded during a June quarter.

Despite the overall smartphone market shrinking by 11% year-on-year, premium smartphones continued to perform well, helping Apple and Samsung strengthen their positions among the best-selling devices.
