Sindh Orders Fire Safety Measures in All Private Schools

The Sindh Directorate of Inspection and Registration of Private Institutions has mandated all privately operated schools throughout the province to enforce stringent fire prevention and safety protocols. In a notice released on August 27, the agency directed school officials to verify that all required fire safety installations continue to function at all times.

School authorities are required to install and routinely test fire alarms, smoke detectors, and suitable fire extinguishers on every floor and at key locations. Emergency exits, staircases, and evacuation routes must remain unobstructed, clearly signed, well-lit, and inspected regularly. Qualified professionals must conduct periodic assessments of electrical wiring, switchboards, laboratories, kitchens, generator rooms, and other hazardous areas.

Fire evacuation plans, floor diagrams, and emergency instructions must be posted in visible locations, with drills conducted at least three times per academic year and records kept. Staff members must receive training in fire response, evacuation procedures, and basic first aid. Schools must also provide a designated assembly area outside the building for safe student evacuation.

Compliance with fire safety regulations and building codes, along with valid safety certificates, is mandatory. Schools are further instructed to submit compliance reports confirming the availability of all necessary firefighting equipment.
