TCN blames Eko Disco feeders for Lekki transmission fault

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) contends that faults in the feeders operated by the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDP) led to a transmission fault at the Lekki Transmission Substation. This assertion comes after TCN addressed what they termed as misinformation spread by EKEDP regarding the incident. On August 26, at approximately 4:34 a.m., both the Oniru 33kV and Agungi 33kV feeders of EKEDP simultaneously tripped due to overcurrent and an earth fault.

This fault subsequently caused the simultaneous tripping of the primary and secondary breakers of TCN's TR1 60MVA 132/33kV transformer, followed by a loud bang and smoke emission. TCN refuted EKEDP's claim that TCN's T11 transformer had unexpectedly tripped and was awaiting inspection. Instead, TCN's maintenance crew promptly responded, repaired the damaged secondary breaker, and restored both the primary and secondary breakers on the same day.

However, a recurrence of the fault was observed when EKEDP attempted to close its Oniru feeder during a trial. This led to another trip, necessitating additional corrective work. TCN clarified that there was no outage reported on its T11 transformer. The company assured the public that its technical team was on-site, working diligently to restore electricity supply to affected customers as swiftly as possible. TCN reiterated its commitment to enhancing the national transmission network.
