Suphan Buri monk defrocked after found with meth pills

Suphan Buri — A monk has been stripped of his monastic robes after police discovered methamphetamine pills in his temple quarters and a urine test confirmed drug use. District officials received a tip from a concerned citizen that the monk at a local temple was abusing the drug called ya ba. Officers from the district security office investigated the temple, where they found the monk, identified as Monk N., acting suspiciously and leaving his quarters upon their arrival.

After permission was granted by the abbot, the officers searched his quarters and found two methamphetamine pills in a transparent bag. The monk tested positive for methamphetamine through a urine test, leading to his expulsion from the monkhood. The ex-monk admitted to using the drug that morning and sharing it with another monk who had been previously defrocked for similar offenses.

The background check revealed that he had been imprisoned 15 times for drug-related and robbery crimes. Monk N. was charged with possessing a Category 1 narcotic, methamphetamine, and using it unlawfully. He was taken to the Muang Suphan Buri District Office for arrest documentation before being transferred to the Muang Suphan Buri Police Station for further legal procedures.
