S'porean, 62, injured after tour bus overturns on M'sia expressway, passenger alleges driver dozed off

A tour bus traveling from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur overturned on the North-South Expressway in Malaysia early on August 26, according to Malaysian media. The incident took place around 4AM at the 177.6-kilometer mark of the expressway. The bus was transporting 12 people at the time, including three individuals who were reported to have sustained injuries. Among them was a 59-year-old Malaysian tour guide, a 62-year-old Singaporean, and a 42-year-old British national.

Malaysian police received a report about the accident around 5AM. They stated that the bus driver had tried to avoid a slowing-down lorry, which caused the bus to veer off the road and overturn. The driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel. A passenger named Lin, who was on the overnight bus for business, told Lianhe Zaobao that the accident was caused by the driver falling asleep behind the wheel.

He mentioned that the accident site was only about 50 meters from stone pillars and a fence along the roadside, which could have led to disastrous consequences. Lin also stated that two elderly passengers were seriously injured, one with a head injury and the other unable to move, possibly due to a fracture. However, the ambulance arrived more than an hour after the accident, and the stranded passengers remained on the roadside for another two hours while another bus was dispatched to the site.

According to Lin, he informed the tour company about his sprained lower back and the need to see a doctor, but received no response from the staff.
