Sokong Wan Rosdy di Pahang, Bersatu cari jalan selepas gagal ganti Umno

In Pahang, Bersatu is seeking a path forward after failing to replace Umno as the dominant political force for Malaysians, according to political analyst Syaza Shukri. The support of two Bersatu ADUs for Pahang Chief Minister Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail may reflect a strategic shift by the party after realizing it cannot unseat Umno as the top Malay political power, said Syaza Shukri.

Bersatu now faces the reality that its efforts have not achieved the intended goals, particularly after suffering poor performance in the PRN Johor and Negeri Sembilan elections where it lost all contested seats. Emphasizing the need to work alongside Umno rather than merely competing in the Malay political arena, Syaza Shukri stated that this approach also carries risks and might render Bersatu a junior partner instead of competing for Malay political space.

On Sunday, ADUs Jasri Jamaludin and Lepar Mohd Yazid Mohd Yunus endorsed Wan Rosdy's leadership and the party's decision until the upcoming PRN. They acknowledged this decision was approved by Bersatu's leadership to ensure political stability in the state. Azmi Hassan, a professor of national-level politics, noted that the support garnered significant backing from Bersatu President Muhyiddin Yassin.

He also suggested that this development should be considered within the context of Bersatu's small size within the Perikatan Nasional (PN) in Pahang, compared to PAS, which has 15 ADUs. Although both parties are in PN, PAS has decided to sever ties with Bersatu, making the party's position even more marginalized within the coalition.

Mazlan Ali pointed out that this move is not solely about regional representation concerns as earlier incidents of Bersatu members switching to other parties in the federal level suggest. Instead, it is more about the political message that Bersatu wants to convey, showing its willingness to continue working with other parties outside PN, possibly signaling an early opening of relations with the federal government's Pakatan Harapan (PH), according to an analyst from the University of Technology Malaysia (UTM).

During the 2015 general election, BN secured 17 DUNs, forming a coalition government with PH that included seven seats.
