PKR needs fresh faces, not a Tian Chua comeback, says analyst

Political analyst Azmi Hassan suggests that PKR veteran Tian Chua should step aside from a potential return to Parliament in favor of promoting younger leaders. Chua, a Reformasi-era MP, recently stated that constituents in Batu, his constituency, strongly support his return as their MP, but the decision ultimately lies with the party leadership.

Azmi emphasized that Tian Chua's experience, while valuable, does not automatically justify his candidacy. He argued that the veteran should focus on working behind the scenes to strengthen the party ahead of the 16th general election.

The analyst cautioned that Tian Chua's bid for re-election could cause internal strife within PKR. He noted that while Chua's grassroots work and experience were commendable, they did not necessarily grant him an advantage in today's political climate, which has significantly evolved since his departure from Parliament. Azmi stressed that the party must consider promoting a fresh slate of younger leaders to revitalize its fortunes.

Tian Chua's opposition to joining another party during his time out of PKR could be seen as a positive attribute, but he still faces challenges in dislodging the current incumbent, P Prabakaran, who has built a strong foundation over the years.
