Partial lunar eclipse August 2026: Date, time, visibility in India, how to watch it and safety tips

A partial lunar eclipse will occur on August 27-28, 2026, with the Moon passing almost entirely into Earth's darkest shadow. At its peak, 96.3 percent of the Moon's disk will be within Earth's umbra. The eclipse will be visible across the Americas, parts of western Europe and western Africa, while others can follow it online. However, it will not be visible in India since the country will be on the daylight side of Earth during the event.

The eclipse will begin at 8:04 am IST and reach its maximum at 9:43 am IST when about 96 percent of the Moon's disk will be inside Earth's umbra. Unlike a solar eclipse, this lunar eclipse is safe to watch with the naked eye without requiring special filters or equipment.
