Pakistan, UK agree to structured mechanism for bilateral talks

Pakistan and the United Kingdom have reached an agreement to formalize their diplomatic discussions, aiming to bolster bilateral relations and monitor advancements in crucial cooperation domains. This framework was conceived following a high-level delegation meeting between Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and his British counterpart, Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband, in London on Thursday.

During their conversation, the two nations reviewed the entirety of their relationship, emphasizing the significance of consistent high-level interaction and enhanced coordination on shared interests. Additionally, they exchanged insights on significant regional and global events, such as the shifting Middle East scenario.

Senator Dar informed Mr. Miliband about Pakistan's diplomatic initiatives and mediation endeavors in the Middle East, as well as the progress achieved through these undertakings. Mr. Miliband acknowledged Pakistan's constructive role in advocating for dialogue, diplomacy, and stability in the Middle East region.

The discussions also centered on the Indus Waters Treaty, security concerns, and the Middle East situation. Senator Dar pointed out India's repeated breaches of its international commitments and expressed deep worry over terrorist threats originating from Afghanistan, stating that militant groups based in Afghanistan posed a threat to Pakistan's peace and security. Both sides stressed the importance of ongoing engagement to foster peace, stability, and cooperation in the region and globally.

Moreover, the ministers recognized the valuable role played by the Pakistani diaspora in preserving the enduring bonds and personal connections between Pakistan and the UK.
