Karriere: KI bedroht viele Jobs in der IT – diese halten Experten für zukunftssicher

In Berlin, Dirk Stöckmann, a former miner, recently celebrated 25 years of working for networking equipment maker Cisco. He began as a system engineer in 2001, specializing in data center technologies soon after. Stöckmann later worked as a technical solutions architect in a group focusing on data analysis, earning one of the most prestigious IT certifications, CCIE, which is held by around 100,000 professionals globally.

At 57, he now holds the role of Hypershield Solutions Engineer, developing security architectures for AI-based IT to improve the protection of data centers and cloud environments. His current salary is in the six-figure range, achieved through continuous learning, such as renewing his CCIE certification every three years, which provides a substantial bonus.

Stöckmann emphasizes that individuals pursuing IT careers should be curious about technology and committed to continuous learning, given that AI is making this more crucial than ever. Almost every industry is experiencing a profound transformation through AI, with IT being no exception. AI can write code, analyze data, find errors, and test software, tasks previously performed by human specialists.

The good news is that IT professionals remain in demand. According to a Bitkom survey of 850 companies, 80% believe the workforce shortage in the industry will worsen. Moreover, 42% expect AI to create additional demand for specialists.

However, around 27% anticipate that AI will lead to job cuts. Nearly one in four companies report that applicants do not meet the new requirements brought about by new technologies. So, what do IT talents need to possess today? Which profiles are becoming more important, and which are losing significance? The Handelsblatt interviewed experts and heard directly from companies regarding these developments.
