Packers running back Josh Jacobs facing misdemeanor charges of battery, criminal damage to property

Green Bay Packers' running back Josh Jacobs is currently facing misdemeanor charges for battery and criminal damage to property. These charges are a result of a dispute with his girlfriend, which police described as a physical altercation.

The incident occurred on May 23, leading to Jacobs' arrest on May 26. He was released the following day. The charges were officially announced by Brown County District Attorney David Lasee on Thursday. Lasee mentioned that the office aimed to conduct a thorough review of the evidence, some of which became available recently due to ongoing forensic efforts by law enforcement.

The District Attorney's office emphasized that the criminal complaint is merely an accusation and does not imply guilt. Jacobs is presumed innocent of the charges. His legal team, consisting of David Z. Chesnoff, Richard A. Schonfeld, and Clarence F. Duchac III, acknowledged the charges but noted that they do not include domestic violence. They stated that the allegations will be handled in court and not in the media. Jacobs respects the District Attorney's office and the process it follows.

Jacobs was initially arrested on five charges, including a felony count of strangulation and suffocation. However, only the misdemeanor charges of battery and disorderly conduct remain. The incident involved Jacobs' girlfriend discovering that he was communicating with other women and retaliating by throwing his phone. She alleged that Jacobs grabbed her arm during a struggle and threw her to the ground, causing her to hit her head. Surveillance footage from the garage corroborated her account.

Despite the charges, Jacobs has been active with the Packers. He participated in organized team activities less than a week after the arrest and has been present during training camp. However, he has been limited by a groin injury.
