Edmonton Oilers hire veteran coach Misha Donskov as consultant

Edmonton - The NHL's Edmonton Oilers have hired veteran coach Misha Donskov as a consulting coach, the team announced on Thursday. The contract calls for an initial payment of $205 CAD with GST, payable annually. Subscribers can renew the annual subscription for $233 CAD with GST every 52 weeks, which represents a 10% discount off the regular annual price of $259.35 CAD. The offer is available to new and qualified returning subscribers, with the option to cancel at any time.

Donskov, who previously served as the Vegas Golden Knights' director of hockey operations prior to their inaugural 2017-18 season, has extensive experience in coaching. He previously worked as an assistant coach with the Vegas Golden Knights during their 2023 Stanley Cup victory, and as an assistant coach with the Dallas Stars for two seasons.

Donskov has also coached Canadian teams to gold and silver medals at the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off and 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics, respectively, as well as to bronze at the 2026 world junior championship.

Prior to his role with the Vegas Golden Knights, Donskov worked on Canada's staff at various tournaments, primarily as a video coach. Hockey Canada appointed him as vice-president of hockey operations and men's national team coach on June 27, 2025. In addition to his new position with the Edmonton Oilers, Donskov will continue in his role with Hockey Canada.

The Oilers plan to have Donskov at select home games throughout the month. Donskov is set to coach Canada's team at the upcoming men's and junior world championships next year.
