Omar Marmoush: What went wrong at Man City and why Tottenham are offering Egypt star a Premier League lifeline

Manchester City's pursuit of forward Omar Marmoush from Tottenham Hotspur has raised questions about why the Egyptian star is being offered a Premier League lifeline by the London club. Marmoush, 27, had a promising start at City after joining from Eintracht Frankfurt for £59 million in January 2025, scoring 25 goals and providing 20 assists in 67 appearances.

However, his second season at the Etihad Stadium was plagued by injuries, lack of playing time, and a lack of trust from manager Pep Guardiola. Marmoush scored just three goals in 21 league games after starting only 11 matches, and failed to find the net until January 24 from a goal drought that lasted until September. Meanwhile, Tottenham has been struggling in recent seasons, finishing 17th in the Premier League last year and lacking a consistent striker in Dominic Solanke and Richarlison.

With Marmoush set to complete his medical and sign a permanent deal for £60 million next summer, Tottenham hopes he can address their own central striking issues and provide the goals they have been lacking.
