Nepal floods: Social media update eases sister's fears over sibling

KUALA LUMPUR: A sister's worry about her younger sibling, who is currently trekking to Annapurna Base Camp in Nepal, was alleviated through a social media update. Upon realizing she could not contact her sibling, Iffarina turned to the public for prayers and contacted the Malaysian Embassy in Nepal for information. Her sibling's name was not listed among the missing persons, but communication issues in the area prevented further contact.

Muhammad Hafizal Hamidon, a freelance tour guide, took note of Iffarina's post and reassured her on Twitter that he was safely trekking in the Annapurna Base Camp area. He suggested that her sibling might be without internet access. Although the family was relieved by Hafizal's message, confirmation of their sibling's condition required the restoration of communication channels.
