Nepal floods: Embassy tracking Malaysians in Kathmandu hospitals

KUALA LUMPUR - The Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu is actively monitoring the situation of Malaysians affected by the recent floods in Nepal. Charge d’Affaires ad interim Mohd Firdaus Azman stated that due to communication constraints in the affected areas, the embassy is working closely with local hospitals to identify any Malaysians who have been brought for treatment.

So far, 55 Malaysians reported to the embassy have not been able to be contacted, according to the Foreign Ministry. Nepalese authorities have prioritized the search and rescue of seriously injured victims, while lightly injured victims are being treated in the affected regions. The road leading to the disaster zone is severely damaged, hindering rescue efforts.

The floods have also impacted local residents, with several towns along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli Rivers destroyed. The Malaysian Embassy advises Malaysians in Nepal to follow authorities' instructions and encourages family members unable to contact relatives to reach out to the embassy in Kathmandu.
