Moldova, Ukraine and Romania must strengthen cooperation to protect their airspace – Sandu

Moldovan President Maia Sandu emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between Moldova, Ukraine and Romania to protect their airspace following a trilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Romanian President Nicușor Dan. Sandu stated that Russia's brutal war against Ukraine is having far-reaching consequences, including the violation of Moldova's and Romania's airspace by Russian drones.

On the eve of Moldova's Independence Day, Russian drones entered the country's airspace, reportedly with the intention of intimidating the nation. Sandu vowed that Moldova will not be intimidated and highlighted the need to invest in air defense to safeguard their population and critical infrastructure. She urged the free world to support Ukraine in enhancing its air defenses ahead of winter, and stressed the importance of developing joint infrastructure, including transport and energy links, as well as ensuring the safe operation of ports along the Danube. Sandu concluded by calling for the protection of the skies above their nations.
