LG Innotek supplies camera modules for Zoox robotaxis

LG Innotek has started providing camera modules to Zoox, an autonomous vehicle company backed by Amazon, for its specially designed robotaxis, the electronics manufacturer announced on Thursday. This collaboration broadens the companies' existing multiyear partnership and underscores LG Innotek's crucial role as a leading supplier of perception hardware for Zoox's vehicles.

The high-resolution automotive cameras from LG Innotek are being incorporated into Zoox's sensor system, offering overlapping viewpoints and complete 360-degree coverage for autonomous driving capabilities. These modules utilize the optical design expertise honed by LG Innotek through its long history of creating camera modules for smartphones.

Constructed to remain functional even in severe weather, the waterproof camera modules ensure dependable sensing and steady performance even under challenging environmental circumstances, according to LG Innotek. Each Zoox robotaxi is equipped with more than double the number of cameras compared to a typical vehicle. The cameras provided by LG Innotek come in five different field of view options depending on their positioning, enabling the vehicle to perceive its surroundings from all directions.
