LG Innotek supplies camera modules for Zoox robotaxis

LG Innotek, a Korean electronics parts maker, has started supplying camera modules to Amazon's autonomous vehicle company Zoox for use in its robotaxis, the company announced on Thursday. This partnership marks an expansion of their multiyear collaboration and solidifies LG Innotek's position as a crucial supplier of perception hardware for Zoox.

The high-resolution automotive cameras developed by LG Innotek are being incorporated into Zoox's sensor suite, providing overlapping fields of view and 360-degree coverage for autonomous driving. These modules utilize LG Innotek's optical design technology, honed through its extensive expertise in smartphone camera modules. Engineered to endure prolonged exposure to harsh weather, the waterproof camera modules ensure dependable sensing and consistent performance even in extreme environmental conditions, according to LG Innotek.

Each Zoox robotaxi is equipped with more than twice the number of cameras found in a conventional vehicle. The camera modules offered by LG Innotek provide five distinct fields of view depending on their mounting positions, enabling omnidirectional sensing of the vehicle's surroundings.
