Lee to hold emergency meeting to discuss rescue efforts for Koreans missing in Nepal flood

President Lee Jae Myung is set to hold an urgent meeting on Thursday to address the safety concerns of Korean workers affected by devastating floods in Nepal, according to the presidential office. The meeting, which will be led by Lee, comes after catastrophic floods hit both China and Nepal on Wednesday, resulting in over 150 confirmed fatalities and hundreds still missing.

As of Thursday, nine Koreans — employees of Korean companies operating in Nepal — remain missing, and the government is preparing to send an emergency response team to assist in the search efforts. On Wednesday, Lee directed the government to utilize all available resources in the search for the missing Koreans. In response to these efforts, Cheong Wa Dae, the official residence of the South Korean president, has also postponed Lee's scheduled lunch meeting with ruling party lawmakers, which was originally planned for Friday.
