High school soccer coaches share which opponents they game-plan around

In the 2026 cycle, the Cincinnati Enquirer's Coaches Confidential feature welcomed submissions from soccer and volleyball coaches. Soccer coaches were asked to share which opponents their teams focused on game-planning around. Coaches were given the option to respond anonymously.

Drew Adams from Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy mentioned a player with an impressive long throw and exceptional on-ball skills. Darcy Bittinger from Lakota West highlighted a midfielder known for her playmaking abilities and pace. Anne Bowling from Calvary Christian noted a sophomore's remarkable speed and shooting accuracy.

Liam Brady from Indian Hill spoke about a senior midfielder/attacker with outstanding vision and composure. Beckett Brinkman from Summit Country Day explained his team's strategy of limiting a particular midfielder's touches due to his ability to change the game. Aidan Gross from Mariemont identified a dynamic player who can impact every phase of the game.

Colin Kmet from Sycamore emphasized a player's high soccer IQ, technical skill, and ability to hurt opponents through dribble, pass, or shot. Kylie Smith from Bishop Brossart described a physical, fast attacking junior. Andy Stein from Indian Hill mentioned a quick winger who likes to test defenders one-on-one. Jack Sweeney from St. Xavier and Alex Lopez from Sycamore were noted for their high soccer IQ, striking ability, and capability to change the game with a single shot.

Harper Wagner from Harrison highlighted a strong center back, quick, and a reliable leader. The Eastern Cincinnati Conference and surrounding area have seen a high number of top-tier players in recent years, with Nina Brandon, Karringtyn Wilder, Abby Nisonger, Mollee Erras, and Lindsay Bruce being notable opponents to watch. The Cincinnati Hills League and Miami Valley Conference also feature several standout players, such as Emma O'Brien, Allie McCauley, Liliah Beers, Macy Mueller, Emily Dunn, Aubrey Blakeley, Ella Wilson, and Carly Brunetti.
