Doosan Group to provide US$5 million in aid to flood-hit Nepal

Doosan Group announced on Thursday its pledge of a US$5 million emergency aid package to Nepal, aimed at aiding recovery efforts following devastating floods and landslides. The funds will primarily support search and rescue operations, as well as other relief activities in the regions affected by the calamity. Six employees from Doosan Enerbility Co., a subsidiary energy firm, went missing while working on a hydropower plant construction site in Nepal's Rasuwa district after the floods struck on Wednesday.

Additionally, three workers from the state-run power generation company, Korea South-East Power Co., are also missing. Meanwhile, ten other Doosan workers, though safe but stranded, are awaiting rescue. Doosan Enerbility established a 40-member emergency operation center at its Seongnam headquarters, just south of Seoul, and dispatched a field response team, led by co-CEO Jung Yeon-in, to Nepal earlier in the day.

Jung informed reporters upon departure that they are working in close coordination with Nepalese authorities and are fully committed to rescuing the missing employees. The floods and landslides, which struck Nepal's north-central Himalayan region near the Nepal-Tibet border, have resulted in at least 160 deaths and have left over 400 others missing, including numerous foreigners, as reported by international media.
