Ayariga praises Afenyo-Markin for integrity and forthrightness in Parliament

Mahama Ayariga, the Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, has commended Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, for his integrity, honesty, and forthrightness. Despite being on opposite sides of the political spectrum, Ayariga highlighted a constructive working relationship between the two in Parliament.

Afenyo-Markin, according to Ayariga, consistently played his role as Minority Leader by advancing his side's position, just as the Minority was expected to challenge the government. Ayariga emphasized that one could trust Afenyo-Markin to call out any issues and push his side's position. He noted that Afenyo-Markin was simply fulfilling his parliamentary responsibility, allowing Ayariga to perform his role as Majority Leader.

Ayariga expressed appreciation for Afenyo-Markin's personal qualities, describing him as a person of integrity and honesty. He also praised Afenyo-Markin for his openness and directness in their interactions. The Minister-designate expressed hope for a similar productive relationship with Afenyo-Markin's successor, James Agalga.

Despite political disagreements and frequent exchanges, Ayariga genuinely appreciated the working relationship they developed. He described Afenyo-Markin as resilient and persistent, even when faced with opposition. Ayariga noted that while the Minority side could be vocal and create intense debate, its members also supported parliamentary business when necessary, supporting government proposals when needed to help complete parliamentary processes.
