Anwar: Give university students full freedom to voice views, foster critical thinking

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that university students must enjoy unrestricted freedom of expression at institutions of higher learning, in order to maintain these platforms for critical thinking and new viewpoints to address contemporary educational challenges. Anwar argued that university management and the relevant ministry must acknowledge the necessity of granting full freedom to students to promote a more vibrant intellectual culture.

"We must acknowledge that university students should be given unrestricted freedom without any hindrances to their activities," Anwar stated at the Malaysia Madani Scholars Forum Series 13 held at Dewan Tunku Canselor, Universiti Malaya. He further explained that while disagreements can be debated and students challenged to defend their arguments, universities must remain a space for fostering critical and innovative thinking.
