Amankwaa Mireku slams Harry Zakour’s $100,000 bonus claim

Former Accra Hearts of Oak captain Yaw Amankwah Mireku has vehemently denied former club chairman Harry Zakour's assertion that each member of the 2000 CAF Champions League-winning team received a $100,000 bonus. Zakour disclosed in an interview with Sporty FM that every player from the legendary 2000 squad was awarded $100,000 following their victory in the CAF Champions League.

However, Mireku categorically rejected the claim, calling it "a lie and senseless." "It's a stupid and senseless statement from Harry Zakour. There is no truth in what he said," Mireku stated during an interview with Connect 97.1FM. The ex-Hearts captain further clarified that the players were initially promised $25,000 each, but this sum remains unpaid.

"Even the $25,000 we were promised hasn't been paid, let alone the $100,000 Zakour claims," he added. Mireku emphasized that false claims could cause unnecessary pressure on the club and its supporters, urging Zakour to apologize. Hearts of Oak triumphed over Esperance 5-2 on aggregate in the final to secure the CAF Champions League title in 2000.
