Adun Buloh Kasap speaker DUN Johor

Zahari Sarip was recently appointed as the 16th Speaker of the Johor State Legislative Assembly (DUN Johor). (Picture from Facebook) During the opening session of the 16th session of the Johor State Legislative Assembly (DUN Johor), former Adun Bukit Permai Mohd Jafni Md Shukor proposed the name of Zahari Sarip, who is 59 years old.

His proposal was supported by Adun Machap Onn Hafiz Ghazi, who is also the state's Chief Minister. No other nominations were made. Zahari will replace Puad Zarkashi, who held the same position for the 15th term from April 2022 until the dissolution of DUN in early June last year. Previously, Zahari served as the chairman of the Johor Agricultural, Rural Industry, and Development Committee and has been the Member of the DUN for Buloh Kasap since 2018.

In the July 16 PRN Johor results, Zahari retained his Buloh Kasap seat by defeating Pakatan Harapan candidate Noraziah Mohd Razit by a margin of 8,600 votes. In his acceptance speech following his official selection and being given the Speaker's robe, Zahari expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by the Chief Minister and all the members of the DUN.

He pledged to discharge the responsibilities entrusted to him with utmost dedication and commitment. He also expressed gratitude to Mohd Puad and former Deputy Speaker Samsolbari Jamali for their contributions throughout their respective terms as Members of DUN for the 15th session of the DUN.
