Adobe Photoshop now has an AI editor for people who’d rather prompt

Adobe has introduced an AI Assisted Editor in Photoshop, aimed at users who prefer prompt-based editing over the traditional interface. This new workspace features a natural-language prompt bar and several generative tools, providing a different starting point for less experienced users. The AI Assisted Editor allows users to describe the changes they want, and Photoshop handles the setup.

It includes features like Generative Fill, which can add, replace, or remove content in an image, and Prompt to Edit, which can change an entire image based on a written instruction without requiring a selection first. This new interface works alongside the Pro Editor, allowing experienced users to continue using the layer-based editor they know.

Adobe has been moving towards conversational editing across its creative apps, adding more control over generated edits, such as Instruct Edit with Masks, which can consider the full image while restricting changes to a masked area. A new Light Adjustment Layer brings controls like exposure and contrast into a non-destructive layer, giving users more room for traditional adjustments.

Dynamic Text now supports custom shapes and paths, and a dockable Stock panel adds more than 900 million Adobe Stock assets directly into Photoshop. These updates offer two clear routes into Photoshop: experienced editors can use the Pro Editor, while beginners can start by describing what they want. This lower-friction entry point could change one of Photoshop's biggest tradeoffs compared to other photo editing software.
