Adobe Photoshop adds optional ‘AI Assisted Editor’ mode for fully prompt-based image editing

Adobe Photoshop has introduced a beta version of its AI Assisted Editor, a new editing mode that simplifies image editing through a prompt-based interface. This mode can be accessed via a toggle on Photoshop's menu bar, which users can hide if desired. The simplified interface includes various tools such as Prompt to Edit for transforming images using natural language prompts, Remove Background for erasing backgrounds and refining edges, Generative Expand to extend image dimensions, Remove Tool to eliminate unwanted objects, Generative Fill for adding or removing content, Generative Upscale to increase resolution, and Al Markup for visually annotating images and providing precise instructions like "add more clouds" or "change this shoe".

Adobe Firefly, the company's AI model, handles these adjustments, which users can refine either in AI Assisted Editor mode or by switching to the traditional Pro Editor.

In addition to AI Assisted Editor, Photoshop now supports prompt-based masked edits, enabling users to select specific portions of an image for editing. Another new feature is a non-destructive layer tool for light adjustments, including exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, whites, and blacks, allowing for Camera Raw-level results within Photoshop's layer workflow.

A unique feature, "Prompt to Edit," lets users write a prompt to transform an entire image, such as converting a daytime scene to nighttime or a rainy scene to sunny. The new tool supports various AI models and creates a new layer with two variations of the edited image.

Finally, Adobe announced Dynamic Text, Shapes, and Paths, which extends Photoshop's Dynamic Text feature to custom shapes and paths, enabling text to adapt automatically along curves and freeform layouts. Additionally, Stock Panel Integration brings over 900 million Adobe Stock assets into Photoshop, providing easy access to assets without leaving the workflow. AI Assisted Editor is currently available in beta, while the other features will be generally available starting today.
