Waymo to introduce driverless rides to Germany by end of 2027

Waymo, the autonomous driving technology arm of Alphabet, plans to introduce driverless robotaxis to the German market by the end of 2027, marking its first expansion into the EU. The company, currently testing its vehicles in Munich, will begin with a small fleet of all-electric Jaguar I-Pace cars, gradually scaling up operations.

This initiative is viewed as a significant step for Waymo, aligning with its goal of establishing a presence in mobility hubs and creating high-skilled jobs. Waymo's co-CEO, Tekedra Mawakana, emphasized the importance of earning the community's trust and ensuring a safe, reliable service for residents and visitors. The company recently unveiled a custom AI chip designed to enhance the performance of its autonomous vehicles, signaling its commitment to advancing the field of autonomous driving.
