WATCH: Viral Video Shows Stray Dog Biting Woman Carrying Toddler In Pune; Child Falls During Attack

Pune's Old Sangvi area witnessed a shocking incident on Wednesday when a woman carrying her one-year-old child was attacked by a stray dog. According to a video footage, the woman was walking with the child on her arms when two dogs emerged from behind a parked car. One of the dogs immediately attacked the woman, biting her leg. The panic and pain caused by the attack led the woman to lose her balance, and during this moment, her child fell from her arms and hit the ground.

This incident has once again highlighted the growing issue of stray dogs in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) area. In the past few years, dog bite cases in the region have witnessed a sharp rise, increasing from around 13,800 cases in 2021-22 to more than 38,000 cases in 2025-26. The PCMC's Veterinary Department has received numerous complaints about these stray dog attacks, but residents allege that these complaints were not addressed effectively.

Dog attacks in several parts of the PCMC area, including Chikhali, Old Sangvi, Wakad, Bhosari, and Chinchwade Nagar, have become a cause for concern. Elderly people, children, and women carrying babies have been targeted in these attacks. Animal welfare activists have pointed out the lack of proper animal birth control and anti-rabies vaccination programs, as well as the limited capacity of sterilization facilities and the availability of dog-holding cages. These issues have made it difficult to control the large stray dog population in the area.
