Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly clears huge heap of refuse at Mankranso Zongo to safeguard public health

The Nkwanta South Municipal Assembly in Ghana's Oti Region has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the living conditions of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) through a distribution of essential items and financial support. At a presentation event in Nkwanta, beneficiaries received start-up kits and cash to strengthen livelihoods and reduce vulnerability.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Joseph Awal Antwi, stated that this initiative aligns with government's broader social intervention efforts to provide relief to vulnerable groups and foster inclusive development. The financial support is sourced from the statutory allocation that requires assemblies to allocate 5% of their District Assemblies Common Fund to PWD-related programmes.

Sixty beneficiaries were equipped with items such as chest refrigerators, cassava grinding machines, fufu pounding machines, and cash. The MCE emphasized the importance of beneficiaries making productive use of the items, discouraging sales, and warned that misuse could result in legal consequences. The Social Welfare Department will monitor the use of these items.

The MCE also thanked President John Mahama for prioritizing social programmes for vulnerable groups and called upon non-governmental organisations, philanthropists, and corporate bodies to extend support to PWDs, particularly in Nkwanta South, to tackle extreme poverty in the area.
