Trump calls Canada "one of the worst countries" to work with after Ottawa lays on tariffs

U.S. President Donald Trump claims that his nation does not require Canada, but the country's economy relies heavily on its northern neighbor. Each day, approximately 4 million barrels of Canadian crude oil traverse the border, fueling American vehicles, trucks, and aircraft, as well as supporting U.S. industries. Oil is just one aspect of the intricate relationship between the two countries.

Canada also provides aluminum, potash for U.S. farms, and components for an auto industry that spans both sides of the border. Trump tweeted this week, echoing his longstanding contention: "WE DON’T NEED CANADA, THEY NEED US!" However, Trump has simultaneously imposed a 50% tariff on Canadian aluminum, while admitting that the United States critically requires the metal.

"This country desperately needs aluminum," Trump stated, emphasizing that the nation currently obtains it predominantly from Canada.
