Trump: 'Time to teach Canada you can't do this anymore'

In the days following the collapse of trade negotiations between the United States and Canada, President Donald Trump has declared that it is time to teach Canada that it cannot continue its actions. In an interview, Trump cited a previously successful deal as evidence of what the two countries could achieve. He acknowledged that while there might be some inconveniences, the United States could still obtain necessary goods from other sources.

Trump's decision to impose 50% tariffs on $20 billion worth of Canadian imports came just days after the talks fell apart. Canada responded on Tuesday by retaliating with tariffs on approximately $20 billion worth of U.S. annual imports, along with providing aid to businesses and workers that matched Washington's latest duties dollar for dollar.

The new tariffs are set to take effect on September 8. Additionally, Trump announced a 50% tariff on Canadian autos and parts, which will become effective on January 1. Canada has maintained that the U.S. refused to extend tariff relief to medium- and heavy-duty vehicles.
