Shettima pushes for Nigeria-Thailand ties beyond crude oil, rice

Vice President Kashim Shettima urged Nigeria's relationship with Thailand to expand beyond crude oil and rice production, advocating for deeper cooperation in technology, agriculture, commerce, and renewable energy. Shettima received a delegation from Thailand led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Shettima highlighted Nigeria's potential as a market and investment destination, emphasizing opportunities in agriculture, ICT, renewable energy, and solid minerals. He acknowledged the existing cordial relationship between the two countries but stated the need to review the bilateral partnership at a strategic level.

Phuangketkeow praised Nigeria's transformation under the Tinubu administration, describing it as a strategic partner, a strong voice in the Global South, and an emerging leader in e-commerce. He emphasized the proposed Thailand-Africa Initiative aimed at strengthening economic ties, business relations, and people-to-people connections across Africa, with a focus on agriculture and other areas.
