Second suspect arrested in Swedish school attack

Sweden police have arrested a second individual in connection with a sword attack at a high school that resulted in one death and three injuries, officials announced on Wednesday. The 18-year-old suspect, Liam Nebel, is accused of murder and attempted murder in the incident at Brinell school in Fagersta, central Sweden. The attack took place on August 21, 2023, leaving a 17-year-old student dead and three others wounded, including two boys aged 12 to 17 who remain in critical condition in hospital.

Initially, authorities believed there was only one perpetrator, but they are now investigating the possibility of an accomplice. Police have been looking into a TikTok account reportedly linked to the attacker, which has been taken down. The account featured several videos glorifying school attacks, with the final upload showing a photo of a sword on a Brinell school bathroom floor.

Students who witnessed the attack described the perpetrator as wearing a helmet, dark clothing, and carrying a sword, similar to a 2015 attack in Trollhattan where a 21-year-old killed three people in a racially motivated assault. The 2015 attacker also wore black clothes, a Darth Vader-like mask, and a German World War II helmet. The motive behind the latest attack remains under investigation.
