Sanwo-Olu advises managers on ethical leadership

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has called on Nigerian managers and professionals to enhance ethical leadership, foster innovation, and develop institutions that can adapt to rapid economic and technological changes. Accompanied by Deputy Governor Dr Kadri Hamzat, Sanwo-Olu made this appeal at the 65th Anniversary Dinner and Awards Night of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) in Lagos, themed 'Leading Through Transformation: The Human Element in Modern Leadership'.

The event, held at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, emphasized the challenges that leaders face in the public and private sectors due to rapid urbanization, technological disruption, economic transformation, and evolving work patterns. Sanwo-Olu urged managers to integrate strategic thinking, technical expertise, integrity, adaptability, and lifelong learning into their leadership styles.

He emphasized that strong institutions are crucial to maintaining trust, stability, and sustainable development in the face of these challenges.

Sanwo-Olu also highlighted the importance of NIM's role in cultivating management professionals to help Nigeria navigate the evolving business and economic landscape, while encouraging the institute to uphold professional standards. He further advocated for the adoption of digital transformation and the strengthening of professional standards to enable Nigerian managers to compete effectively in the global economy.

Earlier, NIM's President and Chairman, Commodore Abimbola Ayuba, reaffirmed the institute's dedication to fostering management excellence and professional growth in Nigeria. He noted that the institute's charter, granted by the National Assembly in 2003, now extends to setting standards and systems for evaluating and developing management professionals.

The anniversary dinner acknowledged the contributions of past presidents and other professionals to the advancement of management practices in Nigeria. The event's highlight was the inauguration of Hamzat as a Fellow of NIM.
