Patrick Mahomes to sit again as the Chiefs end their preseason against the Seahawks on Friday night

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will sit out of Friday night's preseason finale against the Seattle Seahawks, marking the first time the two-time MVP has gone through a full scheduled preseason without appearing in a game. The Chiefs head into their Monday night showdown against Denver on September 14, with Mahomes expected to be on the field.

Mahomes, who tore ligaments in his knee in December, has been on track since the ensuing surgery, taking part in every aspect of the offseason program and training camp. Chiefs coach Andy Reid also indicated that backup quarterback Justin Fields is unlikely to play in the game against the Seahawks, though offensive starters will get some reps.

Running back Kenneth Walker III and wide receivers Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy are also unlikely to play after dealing with injuries and swelling.
