Nebula Sans

Nebula Sans is a modern, humanist sans-serif font designed for legibility in both digital and print applications. It was created as the brand typeface for Nebula, a premium streaming service featuring independent creators. This new font is a drop-in alternative to Whitney SSm, another brand typeface, and is available for anyone to use under the SIL Open Font License.

Nebula Sans shares many primary characteristics with Source Sans, which was the foundation for its creation. Both Source Sans and Whitney SSm were designed to bridge the gap between American gothic and European humanist typefaces, emphasizing readability. The adjustments made to Nebula Sans primarily focused on adapting the metrics of Source Sans to better match those of Whitney SSm, as Source Sans is smaller and narrower by default.

The punctuation marks in Whitney SSm were found to be too straight for Nebula Sans's taste, so the default punctuation marks in Nebula Sans use beautiful curly glyphs from Source Sans. Nebula Sans also features the same stylistic alternates as Source Sans, aligning the defaults with Whitney SSm. One unique addition to Nebula Sans is the inclusion of tabular lining figures, which allow for precise increments in the video player's timestamp without the digits jumping around as they change.

Other notable features of Nebula Sans include its support for tabular lining figures and its stylistic alternates, which echo those of Source Sans. The asterisk symbol, named for its resemblance to a star, was given a special twist in Nebula Sans.
