Moffi begins Hamburg training as club chief hails Nigerian

Terem Moffi has joined Hamburg's training sessions after solidifying his permanent transfer from French club Nice, according to PUNCH Sports Extra. The Nigerian striker received the No. 9 jersey from his new team ahead of the upcoming Bundesliga season. Kathleen Krüger, a member of Hamburg's board, praised Moffi's arrival as an "excellent fit" for the club's attacking options, stating that his addition provides both depth and quality to their forward line.

Krüger added that Moffi's experience at both international and club levels will prove valuable for Hamburg's younger players, imparting wisdom and bolstering the squad's overall caliber.

Moffi's transfer from Nice isn't his first move away from the French club; last season, he also spent time on loan at Porto. During that stint, he contributed 24 goals in 72 appearances for Nice and scored twice in 15 competitive matches for Porto. The striker was born in Nigeria but has spent the majority of his career playing in Europe, making seven Europa League appearances for Nice and Porto last season, including scoring in Porto's 4-1 aggregate victory over VfB Stuttgart in the last 16.

During his time at Nice, Moffi faced adversity as well, notably when his team bus was targeted by supporters following a defeat to Lorient in November 2025. Despite this, he remains determined and motivated to join Hamburg, as his father's positive reaction to the club's interest played a crucial role in his decision. "Even though HSV spent a few years in the second division, the club is still a big name, and that is the case all over the world," Moffi stated through the club's website.

His move to Hamburg follows a challenging period at Nice, but Moffi is eager to contribute to the team's Bundesliga campaign and make his debut against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
