Moffi begins Hamburg training as club chief hails Nigerian

Terem Moffi has joined Hamburg's training session after completing his permanent transfer from Nice, with club board member Kathleen Krüger praising the Nigerian striker as an "excellent fit" for the team, according to PUNCH Sports Extra. Moffi took possession of the No. 9 jersey ahead of the new season. Krüger mentioned that Moffi's arrival would enhance Hamburg's offensive capabilities and bring valuable experience for the younger players.

"Terem is an excellent fit for our approach. His signing brings greater depth and flexibility at the striker position and raises our overall quality," Krüger stated. The striker, who spent last season on loan at Porto, shared how his father's reaction to Hamburg's interest motivated him to make the move. "Even though HSV spent a few years in the second division, the club is still a big name, and that is the case all over the world," Moffi said through the club's website.

Upon informing his father about the club's interest, he immediately recognized the club and was thrilled. This makes him even happier to be part of the club and its history. Moffi transferred to Nice in January 2023 and scored 24 goals in 72 matches for the French club. During his loan spell at Porto the previous season, he also netted twice in 15 competitive appearances.

His arrival brings substantial European and international experience to Hamburg. Over the last season, Moffi played seven Europa League matches for Nice and Porto, scoring a goal in Porto's 4-1 aggregate win against VfB Stuttgart in the last 16. Moffi missed Hamburg's DFB-Pokal initial-round match away to Verl on Monday, which they won 3-0, but aims to make his Bundesliga debut when the club starts their season away to Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
