Max Verstappen theories over new F1 contract dismissed by Red Bull boss

Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies dismissed two theories about Max Verstappen's contract extension that were proposed by Nico Rosberg. Verstappen signed a new deal with Red Bull until 2030, extending their partnership to 15 years if he completes the contract. Rosberg suggested the extension was due to a $80 million annual salary and the team culture established by Mekies since taking over from Christian Horner.

Mekies, however, clarified that the decision was based on Verstappen's trust in the 2,000 employees at Red Bull HQ, both on the chassis and power unit sides. Mekies emphasized that they will strive to provide Verstappen with a fast car as soon as possible to repay his trust. Verstappen's future was uncertain due to dissatisfaction with the current car and interest from Mercedes and McLaren, but he chose to remain with Red Bull, the only team he's ever known.

Mekies praised Verstappen's decision and acknowledged the responsibility Red Bull now has to deliver a competitive package to help Verstappen fight for wins again. The team is eager to regain the top spot, a goal Verstappen shares.
