Lee to explore regional development strategy with mayors, governors

President Lee Jae Myung is set to convene a meeting on Wednesday with key officials from both central and regional governments. The purpose of this Central-Regional Government Cooperation Conference, as announced by Cheong Wa Dae, is to foster stronger collaboration and explore methods to spur growth originating from regional areas. The gathering will assemble central government representatives alongside newly elected regional mayors and governors.

During the conference, the central government and presidential officials will provide Lee with updates on strategies to strengthen the link between central and regional governments. They will also delve into policies aimed at leveraging regional growth, particularly in alignment with the government's recent Megaprojects investment initiative.

Unveiled in late June, this initiative envisions a partnership between the government and leading tech firms to stimulate significant investments in semiconductor production and AI-driven facilities, with a particular emphasis on regional locations.

On the agenda for Wednesday's session are 16 mayors and governors from diverse regions across the nation. They will present their own proposals for regional growth strategies, contributing to a comprehensive discussion on how to best harness the region's potential for economic development.
