Lee to explore regional development strategy with mayors, governors

President Lee Jae Myung is set to convene a meeting with central and regional government officials on Wednesday to discuss strategies for fostering growth driven by regional areas, according to the presidential office. This central-regional government cooperation conference will gather central government officials alongside newly elected regional mayors and governors to strengthen cooperation and brainstorm methods to spur region-led development, as per Cheong Wa Dae.

During the meeting, central government and presidential officials intend to inform Lee about approaches to bolster collaboration between central and regional governments and explore policies to capitalize on regional growth, particularly in line with the government's megaprojects investment initiative. Launched late June, the initiative aims to partner with tech giants to spur substantial investments in semiconductor production and AI-related facilities, with an emphasis on regional locales.

On Wednesday, 16 mayors and governors from across the nation will also present their own growth strategies before deliberating on their execution with the central government, as confirmed by the presidential office.
