Japanese Film Festival returns to Malaysia for 22nd edition

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 — The Japanese Film Festival (JFF) is set to return to Malaysia for its 22nd edition, showcasing 15 films that span a diverse range of genres. From September 8 to October 18, the festival will feature legendary and contemporary stories, including four films by celebrated filmmaker Yamada Yoji, who will be celebrated for his 65 years of contributions to cinema.

Alongside Yamada's works, the festival will also present Akira Kurosawa's classic Throne of Blood (1957), one of the most acclaimed Japanese interpretations of Shakespeare's Macbeth. In addition to the film screenings, JFF offers a Filmmaking Workshop, giving aspiring filmmakers a chance to deepen their understanding of cinema, connect with industry professionals, and explore the creative process behind filmmaking.

The festival has become one of Malaysia's most anticipated international film events, drawing over 200,000 attendees over the past two decades and screening 215 films. Organized by The Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur (JFKL), JFF aims to prelude next year's 70th anniversary celebration of diplomatic relations between Japan and Malaysia.
