Infantino has no future at FIFA, European Leagues chief says

European Leagues President Claudius Schaefer has stated that Gianni Infantino cannot have a future at Fifa following a series of conflicts among governing bodies. Schaefer, who represents 53 professional men's and women's football leagues, expressed concern about Infantino's suitability to continue as president. He highlighted the growing influence of the president over time and the lack of consultation with stakeholders on major decisions.

The conflict was sparked by Fifa's abandoned proposal to sell a portion of the World Cup's commercial rights. Three confederations, including Europe's Uefa, Asia's AFC, and Concacaf, have called for Infantino's resignation. Additionally, concerns have been raised over the inaugural Fifa peace prize awarded to US President Donald Trump and the overturning of a ban for American forward Folarin Balogun during this year's World Cup.

Schaefer emphasized that the sport's regional ruling bodies have discussed a potential vote of no confidence against the Fifa chief, citing breaches of legal obligations by the president and board members. He believes that redefining the role of the Fifa president is of utmost importance, rather than focusing on finding a replacement.
