Hundreds of tourists missing after deadly Nepal floods

KATHMANDU, Nepal - A deadly flash flood has left hundreds of tourists unaccounted for in Nepal, with at least 95 people dead, according to the country's culture, tourism and civil aviation ministry. The disaster, which struck the border region with Tibet, has left 403 visitors missing, including 341 foreign nationals, as reported by the Nepal Tourism Board on X. The board has given conflicting tallies, stating 384 missing travellers, 291 of them non-Nepalis. Many foreign tourists' nationalities are yet to be confirmed.

The flood has affected tourists from several countries. India has 142 missing nationals, who were traveling with three agencies: Samrat Tours & Travels, Leaf Holiday, and Himalayan Glacier. Malaysia reports 17 missing Malaysians, with the foreign ministry confirming they have lost contact with 11 nationals in the Rasuwa district.

Twelve UK citizens with Alpine Eco Trek agency and eight South Korean hydropower workers were also missing, according to the tourism board. South Africa has four tourists unaccounted for, along with three US citizens with Fishtail Tours & Travels. One Australian with Kathmandu Holiday Tours & Travel and a Dutch citizen with the same company are also missing.

Italy has reported two tourists and their guide stranded upstream from a landslide. The Italian foreign ministry is aware of 90 Italian citizens in Nepal and Tibet, but their fate remains unknown. Several tour groups have unconfirmed foreign nationals missing, including 77 Trekkers Society, 26 Kailash Journey, and eight Richa Tours & Travels. Additionally, 93 Nepalis are also missing.
