Going solo in Melaka polls would be tough, says Bersatu veep

Bersatu's vice-president Ahmad Faizal Azumu expressed concern that the party would struggle in the Melaka state election if they contested independently. He emphasized the need for collaboration with other parties to bolster the party's position. Faizal, also known as Peja, stated that without an alliance, the party would find it difficult to progress on its own, attributing this to the insufficient strength of the divisions within Melaka.

He was responding to a query on whether Bersatu would contest the election alone or cooperate with other political entities. Faizal did not specify if the alliance would be with Perikatan Nasional (PN) or other parties. Although Bersatu remains a part of PN, it lost all 22 seats it contested in Negeri Sembilan's election. Faizal noted that the PN party seems to be overlooking Bersatu, but reassured that their camaraderie never wanes.

He further disclosed that the party leadership has not yet decided whether Bersatu would contest the Melaka election under its own logo or not. The party is currently assessing its strength across all constituencies, with Faizal himself conducting audits and inspections. When the appropriate time arrives, a decision will be made.

Melaka Bersatu information chief Hishamuddin Abdul Karim said the state chapter is prepared to engage in discussions with parties that share common objectives, primarily Pakatan Harapan, in anticipation of the state election. He stressed that all options should be thoroughly examined rationally and with an open mind for the party's survival and future.
