Dolly Parton’s greatness went beyond music – Peter Obi

Former Nigerian presidential candidate Peter Obi has paid tribute to the late American country music icon Dolly Parton, emphasizing that her greatness extended far beyond her music. In a post on his X handle, Obi described Parton's enduring legacy as not only her fame, records, awards, and wealth, but also the person she remained despite her success.

He recalled Parton's humble beginnings in a large family living in rural Tennessee, where they were materially poor but rich in love, faith, resilience, and family values. Obi noted that despite her immense success, Parton never forgot her roots; instead, she carried them into her music and life. He praised her for singing about love, heartbreak, hardship, loneliness, hope, and the struggles of ordinary people, stating that her music gave dignity to those often overlooked.

Obi also commended Parton's compassion and generosity, particularly towards children, the poor, and those in need. He admired her remarkable warmth, humility, and generosity, even at the height of her success. For Obi, Parton's greatest legacy was her compassion, which he described as "her greatest song: the sound of a good heart that never forgot its roots."
