AWS Acquires DuckDB

AWS has announced that DuckLabs, the creator of DuckDB, will be joining the company in early September. DuckLabs will continue to work from Amsterdam, maintaining its focus on developing DuckDB, DuckLake, Quack, and the broader "Duck Stack" community. By joining AWS, DuckLabs aims to expand the reach of these technologies to more developers and organizations while pursuing new ideas at a scale previously unattainable.

The core principles of the DuckDB project will remain unchanged; DuckDB and the other open-source components of the Duck Stack will continue to be free and open-source under the MIT license, with the DuckDB Foundation serving as its steward. AWS has pledged to support long-term development of DuckDB and its community, expressing admiration for the DuckLabs team's technical expertise, humility, and high-velocity work.
