Witcher 3 Remastered Will Be Free in September With New Expansion Coming in 2027

CD Projekt Red announced during Gamescom 2026 that The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt will be released as a free upgrade on September 29, 2026, for owners of the game on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S consoles. The remastered version of the 2015 game will come with a host of improvements, including smoother combat, UI enhancements, a revamped skill tree, an expanded photo mode, new finishing moves, and various graphic upgrades like textures, lighting, and ray tracing.

In addition to the remastered game, CD Projekt Red will also release a new expansion called Songs of the Past in 2027. This expansion will mark the final adventure for the series protagonist, Geralt of Rivia, as it introduces a new region called Letten, filled with unique challenges, monsters, and a dark secret. Geralt will face off against previously unseen enemies and utilize new weapons in this highly anticipated final chapter of the Witcher series.

The Witcher 4, set to launch in 2028, will focus on Geralt's adopted daughter and fellow Witcher, Ciri. While the free upgrade for The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt Remastered will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series consoles, the release of Songs of the Past is currently expected to be limited to PC and Xbox Series consoles.
